After a long dry period in Marmaris, sudden rain can quickly reveal a small roof opening. The purpose of a check is not to climb onto a roof during rain, but to identify vulnerable points in safe, dry conditions.
External points to inspect
- Broken, displaced or missing tiles
- Cracked or lifted covering material
- Blocked gutters, valleys and downpipes
- Junctions around chimneys, antennas, solar equipment and walls
- Parapet tops and older repair areas
Signs inside the property
Dark marks in a roof space, timber discolouration, soft plaster and a mouldy smell can indicate earlier water entry. Photographing a mark from the same position after rain makes changes easier to track.
Why gutter cleaning matters
Leaves and debris can cause water to overflow toward the facade or back under the roof. The outlet and the point where the downpipe releases water should both be checked.
Safety
Do not climb onto a wet, sloping or unprotected roof. Fragile materials, electrical lines and strong wind require professional equipment. Ground-level photographs, binoculars or a safe balcony may be enough for an initial check.
